We always have wool products for sale since it is a reneable resource! In the fall, we have raw fleeces of our purebred Icelandics available as well as some of the cross lambs who are destined for the market. The fleeces shorn in the fall tend to be especially clean as the sheep are mostly fed on pasture over the summer and don’t have the opportunity to get hay and bedding into their fleeces. WE have a variety of Icelandic colors – brown, black, gray and white. Icelandic and some of the crosses are double coated fleeces and can be carded together for a strong and warm yarn or separated into the tog or outercoat and the thel or soft undercoat. The ram who is the father of our 2011 lambs has a nice fleece for separating and we are hoping some of his lambs have inherited his nice fleece.We also shear most of the sheep in the spring and the Jacob and Tunis cross fleeces are available at that time. Icelandic fleeces tend to be shorter and not as nice in the spring, but I have used them for felting projects with success.
We also have roving made from our sheep wool avaible in pure Jacob or Icelandic as well as blends with llama or Alpaca. I spin and dye their wool into unique yarns for knitting and crocheting, which I sometimes sell too.
We occasionally have sheep skins to sell, Jacob, Icelandic or crosses. Icelandic pelts are very decorative and beautiful and can be used as throws or decorative rugs. Jacob pelts are more springy and can be used for cushioning car seats, baby beds or wheel chairs as well as used to decorate. Both kinds of pelts can also be sewn into clothing or items to decorate your home.
