I’m hoping this means we are starting lambing in earnest! Tansy, our oldest Icelandic, at 8 years, had a nice sized single white ewe lamb this afternoon. I haven’t weighed her yet because they are still bonding and the lamb is wet, but she is probably a bit bigger than Cotton’s day old lambs and is energetic and healthy looking. I think she has horn buds, although Tansy is our only polled Icelandice ewe.
I was running out to the barn with a medium sized baby turkey who I decided to move from the little turkey pen in the basement to the bigger turkey pen in the barn because he was picking on the banty chick. I was happily surprised by a new lamb. Alex won our $1 bet that Cotton or Lavender would lamb next , but my bet was on Tansy or Modi, so at least I was close.
They look like a good size match for each other. Tansy has a huge udder but is a bit thin overall so is due for some extra attention and care and a single will be less stress for her to raise than twins. One more lambing and Cricket and her bouncy and curious twins will have to be out with the crowd as the maternity pen is getting full!
