Last year we kept a ram lamb from “Socks”, Kelly’s favorite ewe and one who consistently had nice looking, fast growing lambs, but who we lost last year. Socks had been a dominant ewe with lots of personality and was very protective of her lambs so we thought we might try some linebreeding on her as well as Ralph’s father, Tucker, who produced a lot of nice lambs for us last year. Little Ralph was a bit slow getting his ewes bred and a couple didn’t like being in his breeding group, but we just had his first daughter born early Wednesday morning to Rhoda, a half sister, both sired by Tucker.
So far she is noticeably energetic for a newborn and very flashy colored in moorit gray mouflon. Since Rhoda was Alex’s 4H lamb last year, he’s hoping the lamb turns out well so he can take mother and daughter to the fair this year for his breeding sheep project.
Jade plans to take her Tunis (Mini, who will be a yearling by then) and has dibs on our big white single ewe lamb if we can catch her to get her trained!
