We have two Texel cross ewes:
Kelly is 75% Texel and %25 Finn. She is tall and white and had a single ewe lamb in 2012.
Chocolate is 75% Texel and25% Dorper. She is shorter and black with a sweet smiley face. She had twin rams in 2012.
Fergie is half each of Lincoln and Blue Faced Leicester. She is black with the English blue gray pattern. Her fleece is really lustrous and beautiful. She had a gray ewe lamb in 2012.
Black Tunis had twin ewes in 2012, both are silver gray and one has horns. She is half Jacob and Tunis and is our oldest crossbred ewe. She will be 6 on 2/17/13.
The others will all be two this year.
In 2012, year we kept 4 of the crossbred lambs, sired by Tucker, our previous Icelandic ram. Friday is big and white and almost looks more like a Texel than her mother, Kelly. Mamasita and Grizelda are Black Tunis’ silver daughters and Fern is Fergie’s. All 4 as well as Chocolate’s rams were good sized and fast growing last year.
We also have two purebred Jacob ewes who we cross to whatever ram we have for meat lambs. They don’t seemt get as large as the Tunis or Texel crosses, but some customers prefer a smaller meat lamb and they produce pretty fleeces – usually double coated like the Icelandic, but often softer and just a little different, but almost always very long.
